Positive Behaviour Support
Definition
“Positive behaviour support is a set of research-based strategies used to increase quality of life and decrease problem behaviour by teaching new skills and making changes in a person’s environment.”
Valued Outcomes
Positive behaviour support strategies are considered effective when interventions result in increases in an individual’s success and personal satisfaction, and the enhancement of positive social interactions across work/ school, academic, recreational and community settings. Valued outcomes include increases in quality of life as defined by an individual’s unique preferences and needs and positive lifestyle changes that increase social belonging.
Contextual Fit
Attention to contextual fit begins from the start of our behavioral support process with individuals and families. It begins by ensuring that individuals, parents, family members and other key people are active collaborators in all aspects of support plan development and implementation processes.
Tautoko Services has developed Te Kauri Model to improve the contextual fit of our service delivery for families.
Te Kauri has four components: Whakapapa, whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and whakaaroaro.
